Anthony Mackie as Captain America

Fans of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier now have something new to look forward to. Anthony Mackie's Falcon, who assumed the Captain America mantle at the end of the miniseries, has been confirmed to be returning to the role in the fourth Captain America film.

After Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) traveled back in time in Avengers: Endgame to marry his current sweetheart Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), the aunt of his current love interest, it was assumed that the Captain America franchise was over. After all, Iron Man had only received three films and Chris Evans was stepping away from the MCU. However, the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier surprised audiences by introducing a new Captain America, John Walker (Wyatt Russell), then promptly discrediting him and ultimately conferring the mantle onto Falcon instead.

Though the show itself offered only tepid commentary on America's racist history, Mackie's debut as the first on-screen Black Captain America has been met with universal acclaim. Thus it should be little surprise that he is now reprising the role in a film of his own. Though details about the movie are being zestfully guarded, it seems as though The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers Malcolm Spellman (who also created the series) and Dalan Musson will be returning to write the script. A director is still being selected.

The film is scheduled to release sometime in Phase 5. Chris Evans has also been rumored to be returning for separate MCU movie at an unspecified in the future.
