Get ready for this weekend's Super Bowl by reading about the woman who will make history during it.

For today's Equality Spotlight, we are highlighting Sarah Thomas, who will be officiating the Super Bowl.

This Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off in Super Bowl LV. Selected for the game's officiating crew is 47-year-old Sarah Thomas.

Sarah Thomas continues to break barriers after she already made history being the first female ref in NFL history. Thomas said in an interview with Harry Connick Jr.:

"I never looked at my gender as something that would hold me back. Thank goodness my father instilled in me to never depend on a man for anything, right?"

Sarah's officiating career began in 1996, and she was hired as the first full-time female official in NFL history in 2015. She was also the first ref to ever work in a college football game.

Between all of this, she is also the mother to three kids.

Sarah's hard work and discipline is what got her here today, she shared:

"You gotta put the work in before you can be successful."
