The centennial celebration of the man behind Star Trek is underway.
Trekkies are reeling over what makes August 19th so special. The day marks, what would have been, the 100th birthday of Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry.
"Live long and prosper" is a popular phrase from the Star Trek universe and is certainly appropriate when it comes to the creator himself. Even though he passed away in 1991, Gene Roddenberry's legacy continues to live a long and prosperous life.
Now, Roddenberry's real life and TV families are coming together to honor his legacy.
Gene's son Rod is following in his father's footsteps as he now oversees Roddenberry Entertainment.
"I'm his son and I do want to celebrate my father, the man. But more importantly, I want to celebrate the ideas that he had and that he put into Star Trek. Star Trek... I don't think will ever go away. It really just has a message that's enduring. Until we get to that Star Trek future where we no longer fear difference and change, and embrace diversity in all its forms, we're always going to need Star Trek or something like it," Eugene 'Rod' Roddenberry, told Celebrity Page.
"It's a privilege and a blessing," Jonathan Frakes told us.
"There's a grandness to it. Being able to play a small part in something that means so much to so many people, it's really nice to now just be a part of that community forever," Noël Wells said.
"It continually feels like such an honor and such a privilege. We're still geeking out about it, so thank you Gene" Jack Quaid told Celebrity Page.
With all of this celebration, there's only one thing left to be said: live long and prosper.
