Selena Gomez Launches New Mental Health Platform

How Selena Gomez uses her mental health journey to help others l GMA

Once the most followed celebrity on Instagram, Selena Gomez has revealed that she hasn't been on the internet in more than 4 years in light of mental health struggles.

Gomez, who has been outspoken about her mental health challenges, including her 2020 bipolar disorder diagnosis, recently sat down with "Good Morning America" to speak about her mental health journey as well as to promote her new mental health platform Wondermind.

When asked about the impact not going on the Internet has had, Gomez responded that it changed her life.

"I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people, it makes me feel normal" she said.

The singer, actress, and beauty entrepreneur, has more than 310 million followers on Instagram and while she helps her team to select the content, she doesn't do any of the posting herself.

"I understand how powerful the internet is, and in so many ways it's done the best things for the world. But for me, I get to my news that is actually important I get through people in my life."

Now the multi-talented star is taking on a new project aimed to help "democratize and destigmatize mental health fitness."

Teaming up with her mom Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson, founder and CEO of The Newsette, Gomez is launching Wondermind, a multimedia mental health platform with expert backed content and resources free of charge.

Teefey and Pierson have also been open about the mental health struggles they have endured, with Teefey suffering from ADHD and severe trauma and Daniella suffering from OCD. The three women, motivated by their personal experiences, came together to create an inclusive space where people can get support and voice their feelings.

"I really, really want people to be understood and seen and heard, its okay to not be okay," said Gomez.
"This is for anyone with feelings who wants to feel understood and loved and cared about. You should be working on your mental fitness just like you work on your physical fitness," added Pierson.
