Attention, The Young & The Restlessfans! Our Jaymes Vaughan checked in with Soap Opera Digest editorial director Stephanie Sloane for the latest news on the hit soap.
Sloane tells us that Michael Mealor has announced that will be leaving The Young and The Restless. The exit is rumored to be a result of contract negotiations.
Mealor took to social media to share the news earlier this month and a few of his castmates sent their love to him. Among the castmates who commented was, Jason Thompson, who plays Billy. He said:
"You're an absolute gem Michael. I enjoyed every single scene we did together. It was always fun. We always looked for ways to drive the story and did our best to make it pop. You're a pro. Forever a gentleman, an incredibly kind and giving actor"
Another castmate who commented was Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby. She said:
"Cuz, it's been a true honor and pleasure working with you. You are going to be greatly missed. I know you have great things ahead. Sending you lots of love."
It is also rumored that his onscreen love interest, Hunter King, may also be making her exit. In which case, Y&Rwould have to scramble to find a new young couple to focus on to make up for the absence of Summer and Kyle.
In other news, the verdict is in on the top ten most iconic soap opera characters; that's right Soap Opera Digest asked and the fans answered. According to a recent poll, the top two most iconic soap opera characters were two iconic women with 19% saying Marlena from Days of Our Livesand another 19% saying Erica from All My Children. Then 10% said Luke from General Hospital and another 10% said Victor from The Young & The Restless. And to round out the top five, 9% said Katherine from The Young & The Restless. Then, 8% said said Sonny from General Hospital, 7% said Laura from General Hospital, 6% said Reva from Guiding Light, 4% said Viki from One Life to Liveand 3% said Steve from Days of Our Lives.
