Find out all you need to know about Spike Lee's new movie Da 5 Bloods.

Spike Lee has released his first ever Netflix movie Da 5 Bloods. The movie centers around a group of four black soldiers who return to Southeast Asia decades after serving in the Vietnam War.

Da 5 Bloods shows four soldiers, Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Melvin (Isiah Whitlock Jr.), and Eddie (Norm Lewis)

trying to recover the remains of their commander, Norman (Chadwick Boseman). The veterans are also searching for a trunk of gold bars they buried during the fighting. The plot of the film shows the effects the war had on the men, short and long term. Some of these effects include struggling with addiction, illness, and bankruptcy. Through showcasing each soldier's experience in the war, Lee is able to link why things are the way they are now. Da 5 Bloods also digs deeper into racial politics, as part of the film takes place in the wake of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's assassination.

Spike Lee co-wrote this film with Kevin Willmott. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Willmott explained why it was important to him and Lee to tell this story from a black soldier's perspective. He says:

"The black soldier's story has been that he's fighting for rights that he doesn't have himself, with the notion that your participation and your patriotism will somehow earn you equality back home. What made Vietnam so different was that there's an actual black revolution going on back home and people are dying in that revolution while you're in the jungles fighting another struggle."

The film is available to stream now!
