'Squid Game' Is Becoming a Reality Show

Netflix

Netflix revealed Tuesday, June 14th, that they would begin casting for its next, and largest, reality series yet, “Squid Game: The Challenge.”

It was confirmed this past Sunday that Netflix’s “Squid Game” will be returning with its second season. However, that was not the only announcement surrounding the franchise. Netflix will also be giving you, and people around the world, the opportunity to be a part of the global phenomenon.

The teaser video says that "the biggest Netflix show ever" is becoming "the biggest reality series ever with our biggest prize ever.”

The reality show is currently recruiting 456 English-language speakers around the world. This specific number is not only the largest reality TV cast in history, it is reminiscent of the 456 players who competed against each other in Season 1 of "Squid Game." Netflix also beat the record for the grandest prize pool, with the winner receiving $4.56 million.

The reality show will have 10 episodes and will follow a similar format to the series. Netflix promised to incorporate past fan-favorite games along with new, surprising ones. Fortunately, competitors will not have to worry about the fatal consequences of the game.

“The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed,” the company said in a statement on its website.

People can apply on SquidGameCasting.com for a chance at being cast. To be eligible, players must at least be 21 years old and must submit a one-minute video describing themselves and why they want to participate in the show.

“Squid Game: The Challenge" is set to start filming in early 2023.
