Plus season four's release date and details.

Netflix has finally announced the release date for the fourth season of their hit series, Stranger Things.

Set to have nine episodes, the fourth season will premiere in two parts. "Volume One" will release to Netflix May 27, with "Volume Two" over a month later on July 1.

Now for the spoilers:

Season four will pick up where we left off---the gang is scattered to the wind with Eleven (Milly Bobbie Brown) morning the death of her adoptive father, Hopper (David Harbour). Eleven stays with the Byers--Joyce (Winona Ryder), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Will (Noah Schnapp)--after they move out of state. Eleven and will are separated from the former's boyfriend, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and the rest of their friends, Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Steve (Joe Keery). Unbeknownst to everyone, Hopper is actually alive, held in a Russian camp.

Netflix released in the season four description,

“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Okay, end spoilers.

The bigger piece of news that broke with the season four announcement was the announcement for season five--the last season. Series creators the Duffer Brothers announced in an open letter to fans that they plan for season five to be the final season, but that there's still stories to be told in the Stranger Things universe. They stated,

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things. New mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”

Be sure to catch up on the first three seasons before season four premieres on Netflix, May 27.
