The Stranger Things Spinoff Will Be "1000% Different"

The Stranger Things Spinoff Will Be "1000% Different"
Netflix

With the final "Stranger Things" season in sight, there's still more to look forward to from the Duffer Brothers!

Although not officially announced by Netflix, the brothers have exciting plans for a "Stranger Things" spinoff. While appearing on the July 4th episode of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Matt Duffer shared that, while they don't have much intention to remain in control of the franchise, there's more on the way from Hawkins. He revealed,

"The idea, ultimately, is to pass the baton to someone else, someone who's hopefully really talented and passionate. Even the idea of Ross and I, say, doing a pilot and leaving it, it just feels silly to me. You really need to be there from beginning to end. I think we need to find a partner to help us with that."

The two have high expectations for the future of "Stranger Things" and are adamant about finding the right fit to replace them, continuing,

“Hopefully we find that right person to pass the baton to while we go on to do new stuff.”

The vision for the spinoff series is not quite clear yet, as even the cast have been kept in the dark regarding the new "1000% different" series.

"I've read these rumors that there's gonna be an Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown, spin-off, that there's gonna be a Steve, Joe Keery, and Dustin, Gaten Matarazzo, spin-off or that it's another number. That's not interesting to me because we've done all that. We've spent I don't know how many hours exploring all of that. So it's very different."

Instead, expect to see a spinoff that is rich in "storytelling sensibility" around the original plot.

Apart from the Duffer Brothers, there's only one other person who knows what's coming next. Not a Netflix executive, but "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard. According to the brothers, the actor took a lucky guess and got it right.

For now, they're leaving audiences with one hint.

“There is a story that connects to the 'Stranger Things' world, but it really is more about how we’re telling that story.”
