Dominique plays the role of Debrah Johnson, the girlfriend of Fred Hampton who was one of the leaders of the Black Panther party. She opened up to correspondent Rachel Smith about how important the role was to her:
"Yeah, it definitely was a dream come true. I'm a romantic and I'm a lover of love, and so to be able to contribute to the story in terms of directly coming from a lens of love and unconditional love and sacrifice for the people you love, it's an honor."
Rachel and Dominique discussed the important of her character's soul and loving nature within a film that is full of tragedy and drama:
"Danny and I talked about that a lot, especially in terms of the intimate moments. We wanted to make sure people saw that they were just kids."
Rachel also highlighted to the star how heartfelt and truthful her delivery of her character's poem directed to Fred was, to which Dominique revealed:
"Yeah, I actually wrote that poem."
No wonder why it was so natural!
