#TaylorSwift just spoke with #JimmyKimmel to dispel the rampant fan theories about #evermore and #folklore

"This album is like the third season of Lost" Jimmy Kimmel replies to singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. After releasing her surprise album evermore just a few months after her previous album folklore, fans started to theorize about what else Swift might be hiding. Last night, Taylor Swift celebrated her 31st birthday along with being on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she debunked a few fan theories.

Suspicion of a Third Sister Album

After unexpectedly releasing evermore on December 11th, fans had reason to believe a third album would be coming from Taylor Swift to follow folklore's sister album. After seeing the name "Woodvale" written in the corner of one of the album covers, fans went off, theorizing about what this mystery word could mean. In her interview last night, Jimmy Kimmel asks her about this, and here's what she had to say:

Basically, when I was making folklore back in July, I was too afraid to even unveil the title of the album to even my closest teammates and management. I didn't tell anybody the album title until it right before it came out. So, I came up with a fake code name that had the same amount of letters as folklore, chose a random name, chose 'woodvale,' wanted to see how it would look on the album covers, mocked them up, and then decided, 'I don't actually want to have a title on the album covers,' and we forgot to take the fake code name off of one of them."

Fans can be observant - a little too observant - when it comes to their favorite artist, leaving room for theories galore, even when a tiny mistake is made! Swift admits that she does like to leave small clues for fans to pick up on but this "woodvale" incident was unintentional:

"I tend to be sort of annoyingly 'secret agent' about dropping clues and hints and easter eggs. It's very annoying, but it's fun for fans and it's fun for me because they like to pick up on things. And they'll notice lots of things in music videos or photos or whatever. And then sometimes I take it too far, and I make a mistake.

The Meaning Behind Her Boyfriend's Pseudonym

In some of the songs on both folklore and evermore, you might see the name William Bowery listed as a songwriter. In the Disney + documentary, folklore: the long pond studio sessions, Swift reveals that Bowery is actually her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. During the interview with Kimmel, Swift reveals that he chose the name. Kimmel asks where the name comes from to which she replies:

"You gotta ask him because it's really more of his story than mine."

Fans might have to continue their detective work on that one.
