Jonathan Majors

This past weekend, SNL had some pretty memorable guests entering Studio 8H. From Netflix's The Harder They Fall, Jonathan Majors made his Saturday Night Live hosting debut while musical performance guest Taylor Swift made her fifth appearance on the show.

Jonathan Majors' Monologue

Over the past two years, Majors has experienced an accelerated climb to fame, scoring big time roles in recent productions such as Lovecraft Country, Loki, Da 5 Bloods, and of course his latest work in The Harder They Fall.

For his first time hosting, Majors kicked off the night with a pretty personable monologue, first joking about what it was like having to stand next to Idris Elba for two months while filming his latest film project.

He then switched gears to talk about growing up a military brat and having to move around so much as a kid, which eventually landed him finishing his education in New Haven, CT--at Yale.

Majors wrapped up his monologue discussing the moment he found out he was hosting SNL, relating it back to his early beginnings of working at Red Lobster, which also landed some pretty big laughs from the audience.

Ted Cruz Sesame Street Cold Open

This weekend's episode got the laughs going with a skit mocking Senator Ted Cruz's recent upset over Big Bird's pro-vaccination message for children. Of course, the cast took to Aidy Bryant to play as Cruz in an all new Sesame Street series for anti-vaxxers and those over the age of 65.

Cruz brought in quite the lineup of guests as well, with appearances from Marjorie Taylor Greene, played by Cecily Strong, Joe Rogan, played by Pete Davidson, 'Oscar the Slouch', played by Chris Redd, and Bert and Ernie outing themselves as former Proud Boys.

March of the Suitors

On this episode of 'Forgotten Monarchs', Queen Matilda, played by Chloe Fineman, is presented with potential suitors, all of which leave her completely unfazed. Kyle Mooney is first presented to the queen, who she roasts and then quickly dismisses. Andrew Dismukes is then presented to the queen as the peasant boy, alongside his mother (Cecily Strong), who advertises her son's package as the best in the kingdom. Jonathan Majors then greets the queen as a Moroccan Prince, who quickly gets outed by his wife (Ego Nwodim) for actually being a toucan salesman with two kids.

Please Don’t Destroy - Three Sad Virgins

The standout skit of the night featured Pete Davidson entering the SNL writer's room in hopes of making a new music video about the three writers, Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy, which turns into "Three Sad Virgins". Davidson comforts the writers that the song isn't about them, and then in the next line proceeds to name drop all three of them. Taylor Swift makes her cameo in the music video, singing the bridge which continues to flame the writers even worse.

Strange Kid Tales

In another standout of the night, Kenan Thompson and Majors unite in 'Strange Kid Tales', "the show where parents tell paranormal stories about their kids", which Allen Daniels (Thompson) admits he hates hosting. Marla Winters, played by Aidy Bryant, and her son WInter are the two guests of the show, discussing how Winter saw a ghost while walking past a cemetery. Allen Daniels responds that he simply "Does. Not. Like. It."

Kicking out the Winters, Daniels then brings out Daven Timpkins, played by Alex Moffat, and his son Max. After getting too freaked out and losing it some more, Daniels kicks out the Timpkins and brings out Ramona Garrett, played by Heidi Gardner, and her daughter, Coraline. At the end of her paranormal story, Caroline points to 'the man in the red jacket', who is just Pete Davidson eerily stalking the two hosts.

Taylor Swift Performs "All Too Well"

With the debut of Red (Taylor's Version) last week, Taylor's SNL performance of "All Too Well" was absolutely the cherry on top of her cake. Swift's singular performance of the extended set brought tons of passion and emotion into the studio, and the live audience definitely felt all of Taylor's feels throughout the song. Taylor's performance from this past weekend will hands-down distinguish her as one of the bests from Season 47.

Weekend Update

Colin Jost got lots of commotion from the audience right from the get-go, commenting on Taylor's performance "Well I think the lesson we all learned this week is never break up with Taylor Swift". Che got his share of the audience's reaction after reflecting on the end of Britney Spears' conservatorship.

The two cracked some phenomenal jokes ranging from Steve Bannon's indictment, to Kyle Rittenhouse's emotional time on the stand, to Q-Anon Shamen, Jacob Chansley's recent prison sentence. Aristotle Athari starred as the stand-up robot, Laughingtosh 3000, as the guest for Weekend Update. The robot did quite the comical impressions of Instagram and Tinder, wrapping up Weekend Update with big laughs.

Pastor Announcement

Closing out our recap and this past weekend's SNL episode, Majors and Ego Nwodim played a pastor and his wife who open up about their 24 years of marriage. The couple makes the announcement to their fellow church-goers that they're also opening up their marriage to dating apps like Grindr, Tinder, Hinge, Google Earth, and Angie's List. This final skit of the night garnered lots of laughs from the audience as well, solidifying Major's first time hosting as a great success.
