Mr. George Feeny From 'Boy Meets World' (1993-2000)
William Daniels portrayed the role of Mr. Feeny in the '90s hit Boy Meets World starring Ben Savage. As Cory's neighbor, the hilariously blunt teacher witnessed the awkward preteen spurt into an intelligent young adult who would turn into a teacher himself in Disney's Girl Meets World (2014-2017).
With many notable quotes under his belt, one of his most famous life lessons goes,
"To me, a real hero is someone who does the right thing when the right thing is not the easy thing to do."
Ms. Erin Gruwell From 'Freedom Writers' (2007)
Portrayed by Hilary Swank, Erin Gruwell is the newest teacher at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School teaching English to at-risk students in Long Beach, California. Gruwell pushes her students to apply themselves and see the value in attaining a full education.
One of Gruwell's most famous lines in Freedom Writers goes,
"Be the kind of people that have enough passion to change the world. If we let ourselves be fire, thunder, or lightning, we could alter everything."
Mr. Dewey Finn of 'School of Rock' (2003)
Dewey Finn is the definition of "not your ordinary teacher." In fact, he's not even a certified teacher throughout the majority of School of Rock. Played by Jack Black, Dewey is an aspiring rock-and-roller who secretly teaches his students rock music, while under the name Ned Schneebly. The class makes it pretty far in the rock world with Dewey giving his students the confidence that was much needed in their lives.
One of Dewey's more questionable, but purely for humor, teaching methods is shown when he states,
"You know what you don't have to worry about me because i'm a hard ass and if a kid gets out of line i got no problem smacking him in the head."
Mr. Garvey From 'Key & Peele' (2012-2015)
Mr. Garvey is on this list purely because he represents an actual true aspect of our educators... the classic butchering of names. With nearly 200 million views, "Substitute Teacher" is one of the skits that put Key & Peele on the map. Played by Keegan Michael-Key, Mr. Garvey takes messing up student's names to a whole level.
We wish the best for Aaron, or as Mr. Garvey would say A-A-Ron.
Ms. Jessica Day From 'New Girl' (2011-2018)
Jessica Day is truly a light in this world. Played by Zooey Deschanel, Jess is a teacher turned principal throughout the Fox series New Girl. Jess is a try-hard teacher and will never give up when it comes to giving her students the best education possible.
The life of a young teacher is told best through this Jess quote that reads,
"I brake for birds. I rock a lot of polka dots. I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours! And that doesn't mean I'm not smart and tough and strong."
Mr. John Keating From 'Dead Poets Society' (1989)
A classic. Played by the great Robin Williams, Mr. John Keating of Dead Poets Society has ensured his spot as one of the best teachers on film of all time. Using poetry, Keating teaches the boys at his uptight boarding school what it means to express oneself.
Keating alludes to Walt Whitman in this iconic quote,
"To quote from Whitman, 'O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?' Answer. That you are here — that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?"
Ms. Annalise Keating From 'How to Get Away With Murder' (2014-2020)
Last, but certainly not least is Ms. Annalise Keating of How to Get Away With Murder. Portrayed by Viola Davis, Keating is not in love with a lot of things except teaching law to her students. While Keating and her students' lives get twisted in murder plots, there is never a moment that can't go untaught.
Keating doesn't believe in cutting other students in line of their education with one of her greatest quotes reading,
"Never take a learning opportunity away from another student, no matter how smart you need everyone to think you are."
Thank you to all of our teachers around the world. You do so much for us and we are more than thankful!
