Team USA takes on the Tokyo games! Here are some of the Olympic athletes expected to be the breakout stars of 2021.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games have begun! With today's opening ceremony, it's no wonder fans are getting excited to see their favorite athletes compete.

First up, we have gymnast Jordan Chiles from Vancouver, Washington and diver Katrina Young from Shoreline, Washington.

Katrina was also selected to represent Team USA back in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and is back and better than ever for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Jordan is the 2018 Pacific Rim champion on the vault and is great friends with Olympic gold-medalist and most decorated American gymnast, Simone Biles.

Next up, there's the pride of Bethesda, Maryland, swimmer Katie Ledecky. The Team USA Swimmer has already won five Olympic gold medals in 2016, and is hungry for more.

Joining Katie in the pool for the Tokyo Games are break-out stars Caeleb Dressel, hailing from Green Cove Springs, Florida and also Simone Manuel from Sugarland, Texas.

Caeleb has broken multiple records in his swimming career, and won two Olympic gold medals for relays in 2016. Simone is a four-time Olympic medalist (two gold and two silver). She is the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal when she won the 100-meter freestyle for swimming in 2016.

"I'm a person that doesn't quit. My family has instilled that fire in me," Team USA Swimmer Simone Manuel stated in an interview.

There's also returning runner Allyson Felix from Los Angeles, California. Allyson is a renowned sprinter for track and field, and is a six-time Olympic gold medalist (with nine Olympic medals in total).

Each of these star athletes is living out their dream to go for gold and make their countries (and their communities!) proud.

You can follow these hometown heroes repping Team USA at the Tokyo Olympic Games on NBC.
