The Latest Comedy Films Available Now On Demand

In need of a good laugh this weekend? Here are the latest comedy movies to add to your list:

In this segment of Hollywood Insider, Advocate Channel senior correspondent Arthur Kade chats with actors Lance Reddick, Alex Moffat, Madelyn Deutch, and Joe Pantoliano about each of the new comedy films they're in. Keep reading to find out which films are available now on demand, plus a new podcast hosted by Arthur himself!

'Faith Based'

In the new movie, Faith Based, comedy actors Jason Alexander and Margaret Cho hit the big screen once again and actor Lance Reddick, who usually doesn't do comedy, joins them. The John Wick actor tells us:

"Well I actually did do quite a bit of comedy in the last few years. The funny thing about it is that once I watched the film, and I'm sitting there with my wife crying at the end and I'm like 'Doggonit man, these guys made a Christian movie, you know, masquerading as a parody of a Christian movie!'"

Faith Based is about two friends trying to produce the first Christian movie set in outer space. It is available now on demand.

'The Opening Act'

The Opening Act stars Jimmy O. Yang, Cedric the Entertainer, along with SNL's Alex Moffat, who tells us about his love for comedy coming from the show to this film:

"Sort of felt like I don't have a choice, like, I love this so much, I'm just gonna do it and hope for the best and, um, you know, I'm passionate about it."

In the movie, Jimmy O. Yang's character is an aspiring comedian while Moffat plays the role of Chris Palmer. You can watch the film, out today on demand, to find out how the story of these comical characters unravel.

'Teenage Badass'

Out on VOD now, the independent film, Teenage Badassshows actress Madelyn Deutch play the girlfriend of the lead singer of a band on the rise. She tells us about her role, saying:

"I'm so proud of it, it's a period piece set in 2006 about this burgeoning rock band in Phoenix, Arizona and I play, kind of a, forgive the phrase, but like the Yoko Ono type character. She's kind of the girlfriend of the lead singer and you know, very involved with the band."

'From The Vine'

The Sopranos star Joe Pantoliano plays a man with a mid-life crisis in the new film, From The Vine. He describes the film as both funny and uplifting, and says:

"This is beautiful, funny, life-affirming story. This is an opportunity to see a movie that's literally gonna uplift you and you can lift up your glasses of wine while you're watching it."

After moving to Italy,Joe Pantoliano's character takes over his family's vineyard. From The Vine is available now.

Hit Hard From The Pandemic

Arthur Kade chats with Sonia Isabelle about how the movie theater companies have been hurt financially the hardest in the film industry. He talks about Regal Cinemas and explains:

"The Regal movie chain just closed all of its locations, impacting more than 40,000 employees. The final nail in the coffin, the delay of the James Bond movie to 2021. People just aren't feeling safe to go back in the theaters now, and with that being said, who knows how much longer they can survive."

The 25th James Bond movie, No Time To Die, has pushed back its release from April 2020 to April 2nd, 2021.

Kade also explains how the workers of the film industries and the actors have been feeling about the months off set:

"It's been a real struggle for many. Through the various months of interviews that I've done with actors, they were really wondering whether or not they would ever go back to work. Thankfully, we're finally seeing studios back in production, both in the US, Canada, and internationally and it feels like they're figuring out the protocols to make actors feel safe on set. Hopefully we'll be back to full-force production very soon."

A New Sports Podcast

With Bro Bible, Arthur Kade has just launched a new podcast. Endless Hustle features sports stars, and Kade describes the episodes, saying:

"We're interviewing some of the biggest stars of sports, both current and retired, to talk about hope they're building their brands and businesses off the field. Incredible conversations examining the business outside of sports. You can catch the podcast on Spotify or anywhere else podcasts are available."
