Oscar Winner Regina King Makes Her Directorial Debut with "One Night in Miami"
February 25, 1964 is the night Muhammad Ali (at the time still known as Cassius Clay) defeated Sonny Liston to become boxing's heavyweight champion of the world. After the fight, he and three other African-American men convened in a Miami hotel room for what was to be a celebration. What actually took place isn't known, but just imagine what that evening's conversation between Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown might have been like? That's what Regina King's feature film directorial debut does in "One Night in Miami."
<p>Based on Kemp Powers' 2013 play, "One Night in Miami" is interpreted on film by the Academy-Award winning actress who describes her motivation for taking on the project:</p><blockquote><strong><em>"I wanted to tell a story or be a part of telling a story that every black man that I know and love can see a bit of himself, in that story."</em></strong></blockquote><p>While Regina has an extensive acting resume in film and tv and has directed episodic television, "One Night in Miami" is her first feature film. With a 98% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83% Metascore,"One Night in Miami" is impressing fans and critics alike. As an advocate for women of color and equality in African-American representation in media, we congratulate our @SeeHerOfficial Spotlight celebrity, Regina King, on the success of her directorial debut!</p><p><br/></p><p class="shortcode-media shortcode-media-youtube">
