The Daily Show (1996-) host Trevor Noah sat down in his at-home set to talk about the state of Black American lives today. With week three of the Derek Chauvin trial underway, Minneapolis has broken in protests, but for yet another murder of an unarmed Black man, Daunte Wright.
Noah explains that the fact the Brooklyn Center officer felt the need to pull out a weapon in the first place showcases the issue itself. Meanwhile in Virginia, a lawsuit is in place after Black Latino Army lieutenant Caron Nazario was pulled over for tinted windows and a paper license plate leading to him being pepper sprayed and arrested.
Noah ends his reports with his call to action,
"The reason they don't care is because they know they're gonna get away with it and until that changes they're just gonna keep not caring."
Both Barack and Michelle Obama released a joint statement on their remorse after the shooting of Daunte Wright noting back to the death of George Floyd stating,
"The fact that this could happen even as the city of Minneapolis is going through the trial of Derek Chauvin and reliving the heart-wrenching murder of George Floyd indicates ... how badly we need to reimagine policing and public safety in this country."
Sending their condolences to the Wright family and Black families everywhere, the Obamas linked resources for various organizations.
