Will Tony Hawk Ever Skateboard Again?

Will Tony Hawk Ever Skateboard Again?

The pro athlete opened up about his recent injury.

Three weeks after breaking his femur, Tony Hawk is opening up about whether he'll return to skating.

The pro skateboarder gave a personal update at the premiere of his new documentary "Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off." Despite using a cane to walk, Hawk said he'll return to skateboarding as soon as he's healed.

"If I’m able to stand on my own two feet then I want to ride a skateboard. I might not be doing it in public so much going down the line. If I feel like my skills are truly fading then I won’t be doing it on a public level or at an exhibition mode, but I don’t make ultimatums."

Not only is he not slowing down, but Hawk said he's skating "better than ever." As for the documentary, Hawk reminisced his success throughout the years, while also finding a way to proudly showcase the sport.

"It's to show the reality of what it takes to do this through the years, the hardships that it requires and the sacrifices you have to make in a lot of ways, personally and professionally. People don’t understand you don’t just get on a skateboard and you’re naturally gifted and then all the success falls on you. You've got to work your a** off. You've got to be willing to take the hits and get back up."

Hawk cited his motivation for making the documentary as a way to shine a light on every part of skateboarding, a sport he says is the most diverse.

"I want to represent skateboarding authentically and show all sides of it, not just the glitz and the X Games and things like that, but the grit, and what it takes, and also the diversity. That’s something that’s overlooked too. If you go to a skate park now, it’s a melting pot of race, of gender, everyone’s down, everyone’s supporting each other. I don’t think there is any other sport like that."
