Family Guy

Instagram

Animation originally started in 1833 with scientific discoveries on how to encapsulate moving images. In the 1960s, shows like The Jetsons and Scooby Doo were done with cel animation so less work was needed to finish the process. Now, the same process is done on a computer so it's faster and easier to make your favorite shows like Pokemon and Adventure Time. With that being said, here are some of our picks for animated comedies to watch that young adults will love.

Big Mouth

Big Mouth follows the maturation and puberty of Andrew Glouberman, Nick Birch and the rest of their middle school. It's outlandish, inappropriate yet hilariously lovable. The series also tackles more serious issues like depression, anxiety and social media addiction. Season 4 is set to hit Netflix soon.

Bob's Burgers

Bob's Burgers tells the story of Bob Blecher's restaurant he that runs with his wife and their three eccentric children. The characters bounce off each other flawlessly and the story lines are relatable...at first. Bob's Burgers is available to stream the 10th season on Hulu and Fox now.

Rick and Morty

In this clip we see the editors of Rick and Morty playing around with other animation styles. The show centers around Rick Sanchez, who returns to his daughter's home after 20 years. Rick is a sociopathic scientist who often brings his grandchildren Morty and Summer on his sci-fi adventures. The contrast of extraterrestrial adventures and modern suburban life make this a must watch. Watch episodes of the new season on Hulu here.

BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman (voiced by Will Arnett) was once the star of an extremely popular '90s sitcom before it got cancelled. 18 years later, Horsman wants to regain his dignity so he enlists a human sidekick and feline ex-girlfriend turned agent. The series frequently references drugs and alcohol but talks about serious topics like divorce, death and a major theme of most of the characters: loneliness. It's available to stream on Netflix now.

Family Guy

Last but certainly not least is Family Guy. Started in 1999 by Seth McFarlane, Family Guy follows the twisted, politically incorrect and equally hilarious Griffin family. Each member of the family is cruel, selfish and always getting themselves into trouble. Family Guy has episodes on Hulu now.

There were so many other nominees like American Dad, The Simpsons and South Park. Each show brings something new to the table, and is always an animated series out there for you to start.
