The new series hits Netflix September 18!

Netflix released the trailer for Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson's new series Ratched, where Paulson stars as the scary Nurse Mildred Ratched.

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Paulson is the terrifying nurse from Stanley Kudrick's iconic 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. From the trailer it appears audiences can expect a wicked origins story.

According to Deadline, the series follows:

Per Netflix's logline, in 1947, Mildred (Paulson) arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred's stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.

The series was created by Evan Romansky and is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, Aleen Keshishian, Jacob Epstein, Jennifer Salt, Margaret Riley, Michael Douglas, Robert Mitas, Tim Minear, and Paulson herself. The film was based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Ken Kesey. Louise Fletcher won an Oscar for her notable performance as Nurse Ratched.

The prequel series also stars Cynthia Nixon, Corey Stoll, Alfred Rubin Thompson, Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Brandon Flynn, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Sharon Stone, Rosanna Arquette, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jon Jon Briones, Alice Englert, Sophie Okonedo.

Check out the series on September 18 on Netflix.
