West Side Story Star Cast in New 'Hunger Games' Prequel

Lionsgate

On Wednesday, the "Hunger Games" official Instagram account shared that "West Side Story" star Josh Andrés Rivera would be joining the cast of "TheHunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." The post was captioned:

“Loyalties will be tested. Josh Andrés Rivera has been cast as Sejanus Plinth in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes – arriving in theaters November 2023.”

"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was published as a book back in May 2020 and is a prequel to the latest series of books. Written by Suzane Collins, the story is centered around Coriolanus Snow, who was the dictator of the state of Panem.

The first teaser was released in early January, and fans of the franchise were ecstatic to hear the book would be adapted into a movie.

In the book, Rivera’s role played a central part in the story. His character, Sejanus Plinth, is a friend of Snow and a mentor to a tribute from District 2. However, Rivera is not the only cast member that has been revealed for the upcoming film. He will star alongside his "West Side Story" co-star, Rachel Zegler.

Fans hope the pair will share a scene to rekindle the on-screen chemistry from "West Side Story."

Some of the other confirmed cast of the movie include Jerome Lance, Michael Shelford, Jessica Osber, and Tom Blyth, who will play Snow.

"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is set to premiere November 17th, 2023.
