Whoopi Goldberg Takes Break From 'The View'

The actress is on an indefinite hiatus from the show to film an upcoming Neil Gaiman project.

Whoopi Goldberg is on hiatus from “The View.”

The show's co-host Joy Behar shared the news at the start of Monday's episode, sharing,

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing. So she’s gone for a while.”

She did not reveal how long Goldberg would be gone, or when she would return.

Goldberg is currently filming the upcoming Amazon Studios project “Anansi Boys,” an adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman. She plays Bird Woman, a key antagonist of the show.

Goldberg said in a statement on the role last week,

“I have been a fan of this book for a very long time and when Neil Gaiman told me it was being brought to the screen, I did everything I could to be part of it to help make people aware of Anansi and all his magic."

The actress' hiatus comes two months after her suspension from "The View." ABC temporarily removed Goldberg following on-air comments that claimed the Holocaust was “not about race.”

Goldberg later apologized on the show, saying,

"On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected."

Despite the apology, Goldberg was allegedly "livid" about the suspension, and even threatened to quit "The View" altogether.

Her current absence is unrelated to the controversial remarks, and Behar did confirm "she will be back." As for when, fans will just have to wait and see.
