Zoë Kravitz is responding to theories that her character, Catwoman, is bisexual in her latest film The Batman.

The actress sat down with Australia's Pedestrian and opened up about her character in the film and her personal interpretation of Catwoman.

Interviewer Matt Galea asked Kravitz about one scene in particular, which has fans speculating that Catwoman is bisexual. In the scene, Selena Kyle "Catwoman" calls her roommate Anika "baby," suggesting there is more between the two than just a friendship.

Kravitz said,

"That's definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship."

This is the first time that Catwoman, who is depicted as bisexual in the comics, has been portrayed as such onscreen.

After Galea expressed his delight at the long overdue prospect of a bisexual Catwoman in cinema, Kravitz responded in enthusiastic solidarity, "I agree!"

Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, interpreted the scene slightly different however.

He said,

"In terms of her relationship with Anika, I spoke to Zoë very early on and one of the things she said which I loved was that: ‘She's drawn to strays because she was a stray and so she really wants to care for these strays because she doesn't want to be that way anymore and Anika is like a stray and she loves her," said Reeves. "[Annika] represents this connection that she has to her mother who she lost."

Although Reeves does not personally think the story was meant to go that way, he admitted,

"you can interpret it that way for sure... She has an intimacy with that character and it's a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them."
