A die-hard Chicago Cubs fan himself, Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman will slip into uniform in the new reboot television series of the 1992 film, A League of Their Own.

Amazon has announced who will be playing its version of Jimmy Duggan in their new A League of Their Own series.

In the hour-long, live-action show about the women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, Offerman will play Casey "Dove" Porter, the coach of Rockford Peaches. Dove is described as a former Cubs pitcher who is most famous for killing a dove in mid-air with a pitch in the middle of a game. After blowing out his arm in the major leagues, he is now looking to make his comeback by turning the Peaches into champions.

Offerman joins the cast with Chanté Adams, D'Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez and Priscilla Delgado.

The upcoming series is a fresh approach to Penny Marshall's 1992 Columbia Pictures movie of the same name about the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. In this film, Tom Hanks took on the role of Jimmy Dugan, a heightened version of MLB Hall of Famer and former AAGPBL Fort Wayne Daisies coach Jimmie Foxx. The reboot will follow new characters and a generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball.

Additionally, creators of the new Amazon series, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham plan to take a different approach than the film did by digging deeper into topics viewers need to hear and see. In a statement, they shared: "The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it."

In May of 2020, Mary Pratt, the last known original Peaches player that played on the 1943 team passed away.
