The newest limited series titled Impeachment: American Crime Story is based on the notorious affair between former president Bill Clinton with-then 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The affair resulted in Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives in 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice for his initial denial of the allegations.
The storyline follows the perspectives of Lewinsky; Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded conversations of Lewinsky coming forth with the affair; and Paula Jones whose sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton perpetuated the initial investigation of Lewinski and their affair.
The series is based off of Jeffrey Toobin's book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President and is produced by Lewisnky who is now an anti-bullying advocate is ready to shed her side of the story into light after the scandal followed her for decades.
"It wasn't until the past few years that I've been able to fully reclaim my narrative; almost 20 years later,," Lewinsky said in an email to Vanity Fair. "But I'm so grateful for the growth we've made as a society that allows people like me who have been historically silenced to finally reintroduce my voice to the conversation."
The cast will include the younger sister of Jonah Hill; Beanie Feldstein starring as Monica Lewinsky, Clive Owen as President Bill Clinton, Edie Falco as first lady Hillary Clinton, Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones, series regular Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp and Billy Eichner as Drudge Report Founder.
