Thursday, June 30 marked the sixteenth anniversary of iconic film "The Devil Wears Prada." While most actors would take the time to celebrate the milestone, Anne Hathaway took to Instagram to send a different message.

The "Princess Diaries" and "WeCrashed" actor noted the anniversary in her most recent post, as well as pointing out how the world has changed since the movie's release. Hathaway referenced the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, denying women access to safe abortions and reproductive health. She wrote,

"Looking back on photos of this beloved film that shaped the lives and careers of so many — mine included — I am struck by the fact that the young female characters in this movie built their lives and careers in a country that honored their right to have choice over their own reproductive health. See you in the fight."

This isn't the first time Hathaway has spoken up for abortion rights. In 2019, Alabama governor Kay Ivey, signed into law a bill that would make the procedure illegal. Though blocked by a federal judge initially, the recent Roe v. Wade ruling means abortions can be completely banned in the state--and they were.

Hathaway spoke out at the time, writing in another Instagram post,

"Yes the anti-abortion movement is primarily about controlling women's bodies under the premise (for many, sincere) of saving lives, and yes this law is primarily the work of white men HOWEVER a white woman sponsored the bill and a white woman signed it into law."

While Hathaway made the comments about the 2019 case, the same could be said about the current SCOTUS ruling, as Amy Coney Barrett was one of the justices responsible for the revocation of Roe. Hathaway finished,

"As we're resisting, let us also call out the complicity of the white women who made this awful moment possible, and which – make no mistake – WILL lead to the unnecessary and avoidable deaths of women, a disproportionate number of whom will be poor and/or Black. Speak up. Show up. Don't give up."
