What is Freestyle Love Supreme?​

Starting in the basement of the Drama Book Shop, Freestyle Love Supreme is described as an all improvised hip-hop show. Founded by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, the documentary chronicles the journey of the group, showing their rise to fame and impact on pop culture. Lin tells Jimmy Fallon in an interview:

"It's totally different every night…you give us a verb and 80 minutes later you have a whole new hip-hop musical"

Freestyle Love Supreme consists of a wide range of talent from musical theatre headliners to expert beat boxers. Needless to say, the lineup is packed with stars including: Utkarsh Ambudkar, Andrew Bancroft, Aneesa Folds, Arthur Lewis, Kaila Mullady, Chris Sullivan, Anthony Veneziale, Wayne Brady, Daveed Diggs, Ashley Pérez Flanagan, James Monroe Iglehart, Christopher Jackson, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

On Sep 13th, 2019 Freestyle Love Supreme had its first preview on Broadway. What enticed people to see the show was the concept of surprise guests. While regulars like Chris Sullivan and Anthony Veneziale were at every show, audiences could've been surprised by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daveed Diggs, or Christoper Jackson at any show.

This combined with rave reviews, caused shows to sell out and after only 14 weeks, Freestyle Love Supreme recouped on Broadway.
