Drake

On Saturday night, Grammy-Award-winning rapper, Drake gave an update on the release of his upcoming sixth studio album.

The Toronto native made the announcement during an interview at the Ultimate Rap League's "N.O.M.E. XI" battle rap event. Drake is a huge fan of battle rap and has said that watching rappers battle each other inspires him to write his own music. For "N.O.M.E. XI", Drake awarded the two winners with $75,000 each. Shortly after, Drake conducted an interview backstage where he made the big announcement.

When asked if he would come back to the next battle rap event, Drake hesitated at first, saying he's trying to drop his album and doesn't know the dates. However, when told that the event will be at the end of the summer, Drake said:

"Oh yeah. I'll be there. My album will be out by then."

The album in question is entitled Certified Lover Boy and Drake fans have been hungry for it for a while. It's been three years since Drake released his chart-topping fifth studio album, Scorpion, which included singles like "God's Plan" and "Nice For What". The former is one of the most streamed songs of all time. He has dropped a few mixtapes and singles here and there since 2018, but he has yet to drop his sixth studio album.

So, when Drake released this video back in October of last year, fans were sent into a frenzy. The video shows Drizzy recreating some of his most iconic album covers, and at the end, the glorious words "January 2021" appear on screen.

January came and went, and Drake took to Instagram to issue this statement:

"I was planning to release my album this month, but between surgery and rehab, my energy has been dedicated to recovery. I'm blessed to be back on my feet, feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won't be dropping in January."

Naturally, fans were devastated by this news. Since then, there has been no official release date. Today, Drake fans can rest easy knowing they are getting a new album before the fall.

Drake's Certified Lover Boy is coming soon.
