The new Sci-fi thriller Dune starts off with an enormous victory. The movie estimated $40 million in its opening weekend and a $200 million total worldwide.
For those who don't know much about the epic sci-fi movie, Dune is an adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, in which a talented and gifted young man must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to protect the ones he loves and his people.
Herbert's world is brought to cinematic life thanks to director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) and an amazing cast of stars such as Timothee Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya.
But to make the experience more accessible to everyone due to the ongoing pandemic, the movie was also available for streaming on HBO Max. Because of the compelling story and the outstanding actors, people have shown up, marking the movie the best domestic opening for any of the films that aired simultaneously on the streaming platform.
And while the movie is having enormous success, fans are already wondering whether there will be a sequel in the future. With a $165 million production budget, director Villeneuve stated that his main intention was to create a film that was as faithful as possible to the book, which only covers the introduction to Herbert's fantastic world.
As viewers all over the world become more invested in the story, a sequel may just be around the corner. If you're curious to understand Dune's mania, you can watch the trailer down below.
