In 1975, Walter won the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for the NBC Drama Amy Prentiss and was also nominated for Arrested Development in 2005, The Streets of San Francisco and Trapper John M.D.

Walter appeared in numerous TV shows throughout the years including 90210, At Home With Amy Sedaris, Coach, Good Girls, Murder, She Wrote, One Life To Live and The Love Boat, Law and Order etc. She had also voiced FX's Malory Archer in the animated series Archer.
