Static, aka Virgil Hawkins, was a popular superhero in the 1990s. Static is a teenage boy who turns into a superhero with electromagnetic powers. 'Static Shock' was once an animated series on Kids' Warner Bros and was one of few superhero series led by a Black character.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan states,

"I'm proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that."

Michael B. Jordan and Black Panther

Michael B. Jordan's last involvement with the superhero world was in his role as Erik Killmonger in 2018's Black Panther.

Jordan starred alongside the late Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther's long lost cousin and nemesis.

Black Panther stands as a film dedicated to Black excellence and the promotion of representation in Hollywood. This film stands as one of Marvel's few films with a leading Black ensemble and has made steps going forward in the presentation of Black leads.

Jordan's new film aims to further promote the ideas presented in Black Panther.

There is no official release date or cast for the new Static Shock film at the moment.
