Promising Young Woman is perhaps the most buzzed-about film this award show season, and it has been nominated five times ahead of the 93rd Annual Oscars. We sat down with cast member Clancy Brown to get his thoughts on the news.
Promising Young Woman is a story about a young woman named Cassie who goes out, pretends to be incoherently intoxicated, waits for a "nice guy" to take her home, and carries out her revenge upon them. The film's title is said to reference a phrase used to describe college student Brock Turner as a "promising young man" amid being convicted of sexual assault and intent to rape back in 2016.
'Promising Young Woman'
Promising Young Woman's main character is played by Carey Mulligan, and is directed by Emerald Fennell (who you might recognize as Camilla Parker-Bowles on Netflix's The Crown). Also, Fennell will go down in history as one of two women nominated within the same year for the Oscar for Best Director.
When our own Arthur Kade sat down with Clancy Brown to discuss the five nominations on the day they were released, he sounded enthused for the film, in which he plays Cassie's father. "It should have gotten more!"
When asked about his director, Brown had nothing but great things to say. "I can't say enough good things about Emerald," he declared. "And she was pregnant during the filming of it and named her child Clarence, which is my given name as well, so I love her to death."
You can watch Promising Young Woman now On Demand, in theaters in selected areas, and across other streaming platforms.
To see which Oscars the film wins, check out the 93rd annual show this upcoming Sunday, April 25th, at 8 pm on ABC.
