Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will be collaborating on the direction of the sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

First Film Success

The Oscar winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse took the world by storm. Featuring a star-studded cast including Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, John Mulaney, Nicolas Cage, and more, the film made waves for animation.

Following Afro-Latino teenager Miles Morales, the film features a collaboration of multiple dimensions' Spidey Heroes on a quest to stop a multiple reality threat. As a call for inclusivity and representation, the film opened the eyes of many critics and cinematic viewers.

Joaquim Dos Santos Enters the Spider-Verse

Dos Santos was the first confirmed director of the sequel. Known for his directing roles in Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra (2012-2014) and Dreamwork's Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016-2018), Dos Santos is also an acclaimed producer and member of multiple film art departments.

Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson Join Dos Santos

Dos Santos will be joined by the mega-writer Kemp Powers of the Oscar nominated Soul (2020) and One Night in Miami (2020). Powers was a co-director on Pixar's Soul alongside Pete Docter and his work on the Spider-Man sequel will mark his second directorial credit.

Justin K. Thompson is a renowned animator and production designer who has worked on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) and the first film Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse. The sequel will be marked as Thompson's directorial debut.

The Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse sequel has an Oct. 7, 2022 release date as of now. The first film is available for view on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and more now.
