The King's Man trailer

The new trailer for The King's Man has arrived, and it promises over-the-top action the likes of which audiences haven't seen since the pandemic began. Some of its highlights include a monstrously unpleasant Rasputin (played by The Amazing Spider-Man's Rhys Ifans), a besuited but zesty Ralph Fiennes, and enough stylized killing to rival even the John Wick franchise.

Like the previous two installments in the Kingsman cinematic universe, this film is written and directed by British action filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, who was also responsible for X-Men: First Class and served as a producer for Rocketman. The trailer is chock-full of his signature dynamic actionDjimon Hounsou decapitates a man in slow motion, Fiennes distributes concussions liberally with the handle of his cane, and James Bond alumnus Gemma Arterton brandishes a shotgun while swearing in a pronounced British accent.

Details about the film have been few and far between, but it seems to take place near the start of World War 1. The trailer includes shots of early 1900s artillery, soldiers in the trenches, and the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria (his killer, Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip, is played by Robert Aramayo, who is believed to be playing the lead role in Amazon's Lord of the Rings television series). According to 20th Century Studios, the film's distributor, the story follows two men as they try to stop a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds from killing millions.

The film's release date was initially set for November 15th, 2019, but was pushed back to February 2020, then to September, then to February 2021, then to March, then to August. Now, it is scheduled to finally premiere on December 22nd, 2021. In addition to Fiennes, Hounsou, Arterton, Ifans, and Aramayo, The King's Man stars Matthew Goode, Daniel Brühl, Tom Hollander, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Stanley Tucci.
